I have read through different articles on the shape of a raindrop. They are more or less having the same description.
1. Depicted by most artists as tear-shaped, raindrops are not tear-shaped.
2. Raindrops less than 2 mm are spherical in shape:
Reason: the attraction among the molecules of the liquid (surface tension?) tends to consolidate the raindrop into a shape which has the smallest surface area for its total volume, that is a sphere.
3. Larger raindrops whose diameters exceed 2 mm have a falling parachute-like shape with an enlongated, flattened on the bottom, and rounded on top.
Reason: As the larger raindrop falls, the air pressure against the drop is the greatest on the bottom and least on the sides. The pressure of the air on the bottom flattens the raindrop, while the lower pressure on its sides allow it to expand a little.
It is interesting how some simple concept can be very complicated. I like you representation, nice design and it serves the purpose. Think about how some kind of interactivity can further enhance this.
The representation could be clearer if the labels "step 1" (etc) is changed to the actually size/measurement of the raindrop (i.e. 1 mm, 3 mm and >4.5 mm).
